Frimpong misses out on Netherlands squad

Jeremie Frimpong has been left out of the Netherlands World Cup squad after a difficult debut season at Liverpool. Injuries and inconsistent form disrupted the Dutch defender’s campaign, despite high expectations following his move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

Ronald Koeman included Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch in his final 26-man squad, but Frimpong missed out after struggling for regular minutes and fitness throughout the season.

The 25-year-old showed flashes of his quality, including scoring on his Liverpool debut in the Community Shield, but recurring hamstring problems slowed his progress at Anfield. Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby also questioned parts of his game during the season.

Although the omission will be a painful setback for Frimpong, the extra summer break could help him recover fully and return stronger for Liverpool ahead of the 2026/27 season.
