Liverpool are reportedly set to part ways with French defender Ibrahima Konaté after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.

Discussions over an extension began in late 2023, but both parties have been unable to find common ground. Reports suggest Konaté could leave the club when his current deal expires, ending his four-year stay at Anfield.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konaté has developed into a key member of Liverpool’s defense, forming a strong partnership with captain Virgil van Dijk and helping the club compete for major honors.

However, Liverpool’s reluctance to meet the defender’s wage demands appears to be linked to maintaining balance within the squad’s salary structure. While the club were willing to offer improved terms, they reportedly did not want to create financial complications that could affect future negotiations with other players.

The potential departure presents another challenge for manager Arne Slot, especially with experienced figures such as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson also expected to move on.

Liverpool are now expected to redirect their resources toward strengthening other areas of the squad, particularly in attack. The club have also shown confidence in emerging defensive talents who could play a bigger role in the future.
