Kennet Eichhorn, the highly rated 16-year-old midfielder from Hertha Berlin, has decided his next move and given full approval to join Bayer Leverkusen.
Although Liverpool made strong efforts to sign him and were previously seen as serious contenders, the youngster has chosen to stay in Germany instead of moving to Anfield.
Reports say the deal is already agreed with Leverkusen, including a release clause fee of around €8–9 million and a long-term contract running until 2031. A medical is expected soon, meaning the transfer is basically completed.
The player was highly rated across Europe and even compared to a young Toni Kroos, but he believes staying in the Bundesliga will give him a clearer path to regular first-team football.
Liverpool are now expected to shift focus to other young midfield targets after missing out on him.
