Liverpool have confirmed the departure of several players following the release of their retained list for the summer. Among the academy players leaving Anfield is Oakley Cannonier, a name many Reds fans will remember from the famous 2019 Champions League comeback against Barcelona.
Cannonier became part of Liverpool folklore when he quickly handed the ball to Trent Alexander-Arnold before the corner that led to Divock Origi’s iconic winning goal. Despite enjoying success at youth level, injuries and limited opportunities prevented him from breaking into the first team.
Now 22, the striker is set to begin a new chapter as he searches for regular playing time elsewhere. Liverpool have thanked him and the other departing players for their contributions and wished them success in their future careers.
