Iraola Reportedly Targets Former Player for First Liverpool Signing
Incoming Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola is already being linked with his first potential signing as preparations for the summer transfer window continue.
Reports suggest Iraola wants Liverpool to pursue Spanish defender Dean Huijsen, a player he previously worked with during his time at Bournemouth. The young centre-back joined Real Madrid last year and has quickly established himself in the first team.
Liverpool were interested in signing Huijsen before his move to Spain, but the defender chose Real Madrid instead. Despite Liverpool’s current focus on strengthening other areas of the squad, Iraola is believed to admire Huijsen’s qualities and sees him as a strong fit for his tactical system.
However, any move could prove difficult. Huijsen featured regularly for Real Madrid throughout the 2025/26 season, making it unlikely that the Spanish giants would be eager to sell after just one year.
